New Poetry
Shriram Sivaramakrishnan
Becoming
it is one continuous grappling behind the firepit
in our backyard
the stem from seed to flower
the from seed stem flower to
a facsimile
of the sun, dendritic
woven with the slow tumult
of my daily sips~a sickle
of grapefruit awaits my unguent hunger
it is time and I am
time
the balloon that escaped meme’s birthday bash
I find it in our backyard
nestled
among the sunflowers, moving like
them to the wind
the 9 o’clock sun is cartoonish
yolk-yellow and rotund
itself its elf
the sun the balloon and
the helium
whirring in one, wiring
the other
the note its
tone
all this riot~
how it becomes
with my urgent hiss of the coffee
